It’s time to celebrate America for a three-day weekend of not working. Before you fire up the grill, here’s a look at what’s happening in the food world:
Fridays are usually fun at Union Craft Brewing’s Woodberry headquarters, but the holiday weekend kickoff brings a new twist. Défie Moi is offering up its Asian-French street food. The popup from Cyrus Keefer combines two Hampden favorites. Plus, Dj Bohfunk spins.
Were three better words ever spoken? (okay, well, maybe two out of three isn’t bad) Gunther & Co. offers Tiki Taco Tuesday to help take the edge off of the end of the long weekend. Guest bartenders Torrence Swain (Mezcal El Silencio) and Aaron Joesph (Papa’s Pilar) will bring some tiki expertise. It’s also a chance to check out the new Canton spot.
Belvedere Diner Preps Return in Short Order
While preservationists focus on the Bel Loc Diner, moves are being made at another spot in Belvedere. According to Baltimore Magazine, the Starlite Diner is set to take over the former Shoo-Fly Diner spot. Former Red Maple owner Leonard Clarke is helming the remade spot, and, yes, they’ll be aiming to be open latenight.
Wells to Howard County
Howard County’s Victoria Restaurant Group is attracting attention and talent outside the city. According to Baltimore Business Journal, the Victoria Gastro Pub owners are set to open Manor Hill Tavern in Ellicott City in the fall and a Food Plenty in Clarksville next year. To helm the menus, the Marrier family tapped Chad Wells of Alewife as executive chef, the Baltimore Sun reported.
The cookout is the preferred eatery this weekend, but in case you want to go whole hog Mad River Baltimore is happy to accommodate. On July 3, the Charles St. spot teams with Beefalo Bobs to serve up a heaping menu paired with a true American open bar. In between eats, sign up for the cornhole tournament.
