This week, the Baltimore food scene is all about whiskey and wine – and scrapple. Here’s a look at what’s coming up:
Openings & announcements
Miss Shirley’s Café has a new partnership with Coppermine Sports. Miss Shirley’s is now Coppermine’s official breakfast and brunch partner, which means, among other things, that the café staff will be onsite during big Coppermine events like summer camps.
Sadly, Noona’s in The Fitzgerald in Midtown has closed its doors, as of Nov. 1.
Scrapple Fest
On Saturday evening, the Creative Alliance will open its doors for an educational and delicious event exploring the interesting story of a favorite hyper-local food: scrapple. The ticketed event includes breakfast for dinner followed by a screening of “Scrapple Road” and conversation with the film’s director, Kurt Kolaja, and author, Joyce White.
Maryland-made Release Party at Sagamore Spirit
Also on Saturday, Sagamore Spirit will host a release party for two new whiskeys made entirely in Maryland. During the party, guests will have the opportunity to taste the 7-year old Bottled in Bond and the company’s new offering, Sagamore Small Batch Rye Whiskey – both whiskeys are distilled entirely at the Baltimore facility.
There will also be live music, giveaways, distillery tours, and the Brookside Market food truck will be on hand. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and the first 100 guests in line receive a complimentary gift.
Italian wine dinner at Grano
On Sunday evening, Grano celebrates “classic foods and wines from our land” with an intimate wine dinner featuring a beautiful lineup of dishes, like pasta with pesto and haricots verts and elk chop with potato rosti.
Gunther x BSC
On Monday, the behind-the-bar crew from Gunther & Co. will take over the Cocktail Gallery bar at Baltimore Spirits Company starting at 3 p.m. The Gunther pop-up will feature cocktails inspired by 90’s hip-hop and there will be food from Gunther to enjoy with the drinks.
All tips will be donated to No Kid Hungry’s Chefs Cycle fundraising initiative.
Tickets for The Tasting
CookHouse has a tasting dinner coming up and tickets go on sale on Nov. 12. Only a few are offered and they are hot commodities – so be ready to pounce when they’re available.
Holiday hors d’oeuvres class at Cosima
On Wednesday, Cosima hosts a class with instruction on making hors d’oeuvres and cocktails ideal for the holiday season. The class will offer instruction on creating Italian finger foods like polpetti, arancini and bruschetta, plus cocktails to round out the menu.
Happy anniversary to Limoncello!
Limoncello in Locust Point celebrates five years in business on Thursday and has big plans to celebrate. The restaurant will be offering 50% off throughout the day on Thursday and is rolling out new dishes and a lunch prix fixe option. There will also be live music that evening.
Congrats to the entire Limoncello team on a big anniversary!
Spanish wines at Gramercy Mansion
Thursday evening, Chef’s Expressions hosts a five-course wine supper at the Gramercy Mansion. The meal will showcase Spanish foods and wines, with pairings like baby octopus with whipped frijoles and queso Requeson, jasmine-herb seafood broth and apricot salsa paired with a 2023 Albarino, and seared duck breast with orange marmalade, Israeli couscous and mint with a 2020 Tempranillo from Rioja.
Champagne at Petit Louis
If bubbles are your preference, Petit Louis is the place to be on Thursday evening, when the Roland Park bistro hosts a five-course dinner showcasing Champagnes from Gonet-Medeville. Reservations are being taken now (by phone).
Whitehall Lane wines at Magdalena
Also on Thursday, Magdalena hosts a dinner showcasing the wines of Whitehall Lane in Napa Valley.
Thanksgiving plans
Local spots continue to announce Thanksgiving options.
