Developer Greenberg Gibbons is investing $10 million for the Hunt Valley Towne Centre, adding a redesigned center plaza and upgrading the Regal movie theater.

The renovated plaza, announced Wednesday, is expected to be completed this fall. It will feature an “expansive” turf lawn, seating areas, a 14-foot entertainment screen, space for seasonal activities and games.

“It’s been 20 years since we’ve transformed the Hunt Valley Towne Centre into a thriving mixed-use destination, and we want to continue being the area’s top gathering place for shopping, family fun, and entertainment experiences,” said Brian Gibbons, the chairman and CEO of Greenberg Gibbons.

The developer said the plaza will be used for community events, including movie nights, seasonal activities and the Towne Centre’s “Friday Night Live” summer concert series.

The Regal movie theatre’s renovations will include a fully-refurbished lobby, self-service ticket kiosks, premier seating, new laser projectors, updated signage and exterior upgrades. The theatre will remain open throughout the renovations.

“These investments will add a whole new level of energy and excitement for our guests,” Gibbons said.

Hunt Valley Towne Centre has more than 60 businesses and restaurants, including the recent additions of CAVA and First Watch. A 31-acre senior living community is also being planned about one mile north of the Towne Centre.

The more than 900,000-square-foot town center is one of the most visited in the country, with almost seven million visitors a year, according to Placer.ai

  1. I have a question: What will happen to the Chuck Thompson Memorial Plaza at the Hunt Valley Towne Centre which includes a large outdoor fireplace displaying a plaque with Chuck Thompson’s likeness and an urn containing Chuck’s ashes placed within the fireplace walls?

  2. What a waste and a terrible idea, sitting in the center area now with the trees and pathways is great. Developers just do not get it..we need more green space with trees and gardens. The new shopping center on York road will probably be an eyesore as well… Who is making these decisions? They are terrible!
