We’re so excited! Bambeco recently joined with Clean Currents to go 100% wind-powered for our Baltimore offices. We’ve taken yet another step to achieving carbon neutrality, and we just had to share!
We’re gearing up for Wind Powered Baltimore Week (October 15-21) so it seemed like the right time to share our news.
Currently, over two thirds of the electricity produced in the US comes from fossil fuels, but the more people who make the switch to green energy, the higher the demand for it will be. Over time, that means less and less dependence on fossil fuels.
Switching to wind-power doesn’t mean your home or business is disconnected from the grid and reconnected to a wind-farm. Wind-farm energy goes onto the grid in the same way as any other form of energy, from fossil fuels to hydroelectric power. Choosing wind-power means the electricity being placed on the grid on your home’s behalf comes from clean, pollution-free sources.
Burning fossil fuels to generate electricity produces large amounts of greenhouse gasses, which get trapped in our atmosphere and contribute to global warming. Switching to green energy reduces the demand for fossil fuels, leading to a cleaner, greener environment.
We talked to Clean Currents to get the low-down on some basic questions about clean energy; check out their website, it’s full of terrific info if you are looking to make the switch.
Why is it important to choose clean energy?
By choosing clean energy, you’re increasing demand for renewable, wind powered energy and you are actively supporting the development of clean, domestic energy development. When you switch to wind power, you are helping to decrease your carbon footprint by offsetting the emissions from your electricity use with clean, renewable wind power.
What does it mean to switch?
By switching to Clean Currents, you are buying RECs – Renewable Energy Certificates. One REC is equal to 1,000 KWh of renewable energy produced and placed on the grid. Therefore, for every 1,000 KWh of power you use in your home, you are also adding one REC to the national energy grid. All-in-all, it means you are adding more clean energy to the grid, supporting wind farms, and helping to build a cleaner, more sustainable future.
Why is Clean Currents different?
You can buy wind power from many energy suppliers. But, Clean Currents is different because we only sell clean power. All of our wind power options are Green-e certified wind power. We are also a B Corp and Benefit LLC, meaning our commitment to sustainability is incorporated into our legal structure. We are involved in the community, supporting non-profits and community organizations dedicated to going green, and we support environmental advocates pushing for positive environmental legislation.
Opting for clean energy is a simple, easy step toward a greener life, whether you choose Clean Currents or some other clean energy provider.
