There’s much to celebrate in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling that effectively legalized gay marriage nationwide, and Pride has plenty of festivities to oblige. Saturday’s events kick off around 3 p.m. in Mt. Vernon with the annual high-heel race, followed by the Pride parade and block party. Sunday is the all day Pride Festival at Druid Hill Park.
The party has one potentially bittersweet note, as it come just weeks before the planned closure of LGBT institution, The Hippo. However, the Mt. Vernon bar will be sent off in style, as longtime owner Chuck Bowers is feted as Grand Marshal of the Pride Parade on Saturday afternoon.
