Krispy Kreme just signed a lease at a location in Anne Arundel County, so says Baltimore Business Journal, promising to put some Jimmy Buffett-approved doughnuts back within striking distance of Charm City after a long absence.

Krispy Kreme used to have a bunch of stores around, but they were all just memory by sometime in 2010. This Anne Arundel spot is just beginning. Four Baltimore County stores are being worked out, representation for Krispy Kreme told BBJ.

At least as recently as a year ago Krispy Kreme was looking for a city location, something like Harborplace or Union Station.

  1. Ahhhh, Krispy Kreme, the champagne of doughnuts! I was born with a Krispy Kreme in my mouth (as opposed to a silver spoon), and went to junior high school with the owner’s son in Winston-Salem, NC! I do think it would make a lot of sense to put a shop in Harborplace — I was not surprised that the store in Timonium failed, and as far as I know, it was the only one in Baltimore. I do think it’s hard to compete with Dunkin Donuts, if that’s what the customers are accustomed to eating ( and who can blame them, given that Dunkin Donuts are actually made from recycled cardboard, which is awesome for the environment, and explains that extra-special taste that clings to the inside of your mouth and teeth…). Thanks for bringing the potentially good news, although I won’t be driving down to Anne Arundel to buy doughnuts of any kind — I’ll hold out for a Baltimore location!
