Maryland State Sen. Clarence Lam (D) represents District 12.

Maryland State Sen. Clarence Lam (D-Dist. 12) has filed legislation to redistrict Maryland in response to Texas lawmakers who recently passed a new legislative map in that state to create five additional Republican seats in Congress. His legislation matches a legislative effort launched by Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom to counter what is viewed by his party as a politically motivated maneuver demanded by President Trump.

โ€œI met with Texas lawmakers who were working to oppose this effort, and I applauded Governor Newsom and California Democrats for stepping up to pass their own map to neutralize the GOPโ€™s power grab in Texas,โ€ Lam said. โ€œI had hoped that this would mark the end of this redistricting battle, but itโ€™s clear that Trump is not done yet โ€“ he has pulled us all into an all-out redistricting war in demanding that Indiana, Ohio and Missouri also redraw their maps. Sadly, it appears that Republican lawmakers in these states are heeding Trumpโ€™s call.โ€
