This story has everything: a car crash, fire, heroism, and a happy ending. 15-year-old Michael Shearer, a junior at Liberty High School, was doing yardwork at his home in Marriotsville Tuesday afternoon when he heard a car accident. Dawn Oโ€™Croinin had lost control of her vehicle, which hit a pole and a tree before quickly catching fire.

Shearer arrived on the scene and, along with a passing motorcyclist, helped Oโ€™Croinin pull her three children out through the front of the van. And not a moment too soon. Shearer told the Baltimore Sun that the vehicle had become an โ€œinfernoโ€ shortly after rescuing the final child.

The family was taken to Howard County Hospital just to be safe, but they suffered no โ€œsubstantial injuries.โ€
