This story has everything: a car crash, fire, heroism, and a happy ending. 15-year-old Michael Shearer, a junior at Liberty High School, was doing yardwork at his home in Marriotsville Tuesday afternoon when he heard a car accident. Dawn O’Croinin had lost control of her vehicle, which hit a pole and a tree before quickly catching fire.
Shearer arrived on the scene and, along with a passing motorcyclist, helped O’Croinin pull her three children out through the front of the van. And not a moment too soon. Shearer told the Baltimore Sun that the vehicle had become an “inferno” shortly after rescuing the final child.
The family was taken to Howard County Hospital just to be safe, but they suffered no “substantial injuries.”
