Grocery chain Lidl will open a new location in Reisterstown later this month.
It will be the company’s second store to open in the greater Baltimore area this year, and the ninth in the Baltimore area overall.
Located at 11991 Reisterstown Road, the store will take the place of the former Mars in the Reisterstown Shopping Center and will operate from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m daily.
The store will celebrate its grand opening on Aug. 31 with a ribbon cutting ceremony led by local leaders at 7:40 a.m. The first 100 shoppers in line will receive gift cards ranging in value from $5 to $100.
Throughout the remainder of the day, Lidl shoppers will be able to shop special opening day offers, as well as have the opportunity to enter to win a $500 Lidl gift card.
Beginning on its opening day, Lidl will also be donating $1 to the Maryland Food Bank for every new myLidl member who sets their home location to Reisterstown. The opportunity will last through the location’s opening week, ending on Sunday, Sept. 4.
“I am really pleased that together, working with the community and Greenberg Gibbons that we were able to attract a quality grocer like Lidl Food Market to the Reisterstown Shopping Center,” said Baltimore County Councilman Izzy Patoka, who represents Reisterstown, in a statement. “I know that the residents of Owings Mills and Reisterstown are eager and excited about having a new shopping venue that provides fresh fruit, groceries and more to the area.”
This is the second Lidl to be opened in the Baltimore area this year. Last month, the chain launched its first store in Baltimore City, located in the Northwood Commons shopping plaza near Morgan State University.
The Reisterstown location will be the ninth Lidl to operate in the greater Baltimore area, alongside stores in Catonsville, Glen Burnie, Perry Hall, and Timonium.
With the opening of the new location, Lidl plans to bring over 45 jobs to the Reisterstown area. Starting pay for all employees will begin at $15.50 per hour, and health insurance will be provided for all full-time and part-time employees.
