Baltimore County, prepare yourself for a grocery store switcheroo.
According to the Sun, Pennsylvania grocery store Weis Markets announced plans this week to buy and take over five Mars Super Markets stores in Baltimore County, bringing the family-run chain’s current number of stores in the state to 30–9 of them in Baltimore County. The remaining Mars stores have been struggling in recent years, with numerous markets closing down or laying off workers.
“This is an important acquisition for us as we’ve been steadily expanding within Baltimore County in recent years,” Weis chairman and CEO Jonathan Weis said in a statement.
