
After recording fewer than 2,000 new daily cases for the first eight months of the pandemic, Maryland has confirmed at least 2,000 new coronavirus cases per day for 13 of the past 20 days.
Maryland first crossed the threshold with 2,321 new cases reported on Nov. 14. Before that, the highest number of cases that the state had reported in one day was 1,869 cases on Nov. 13.
The state on Thursday reported that 48 additional Marylanders had died from COVID-19, the highest number of deaths reported in one day since 53 deaths reported on May 27.
A total of 4,606 Marylanders have died from coronavirus to date, and there are 158 residents whose deaths are suspected to be related to the virus.
At least 205,399 Marylanders have tested positive for COVID-19, while 2,177,942 have tested negative as of Thursday morning, according to the Maryland Department of Health’s COVID-19 Case Map Dashboard.
The state’s coronavirus caseload rose by 2,044, an increase of 1%.
Maryland has completed 4,527,316 coronavirus tests to date, with 31,305 test results reported in the past 24 hours.
On average, 7.68% of the state’s coronavirus tests over the last seven days have come back positive.
The seven-day average rate of positive tests yesterday was 8.31% for Marylanders younger than 35 and 7.31% for Marylanders older than 35.
There are currently, 1,573 Marylanders hospitalized due to COVID-19, including 1,209 who are in acute care and 364 who are in intensive care.
The number of acute care patients declined by 10 while the number of intensive care patients rose by five, marking a net decrease of five fewer people hospitalized with coronavirus compared to Wednesday.
To date, Maryland has hospitalized a total of 21,558 people with COVID-19.
As of 10 a.m. Thursday, there have been 42,458 confirmed cases in Prince George’s County; 34,425 in Montgomery County; 30,187 in Baltimore County; 25,270 in Baltimore City; 17,318 in Anne Arundel County; 8,410 in Howard County; 7,249 in Frederick County; 6,294 in Harford County; 4,570 in Washington County; 4,522 in Charles County; 3,597 in Allegany County; 3,530 in Wicomico County; 3,442 in Carroll County; 2,242 in Cecil County; 2,240 in St. Mary’s County; 1,660 in Calvert County; 1,514 in Worcester County; 1,135 in Queen Anne’s County; 1,117 in Somerset County; 1,034 in Dorchester County; 1,003 in Caroline County; 874 in Garrett County; 836 in Talbot County; and 472 in Kent County, according to the dashboard.
Maryland has confirmed 8,591 cases in people age 9 or younger; 18,253 in people ages 10-19; 39,050 in people ages 20-29; 36,625 in people ages 30-39; 32,185 in people ages 40-49; 30,396 in people ages 50-59; 20,120 in people ages 60-69; 11,663 in people ages 70-79; and 8,516 in people age 80 or older.
The state has identified 108,096 of the confirmed COVID-19 patients as female and 97,303 as male.
Of the Marylanders who have tested positive for COVID-19, 61,290 are Black, 38,586 are Hispanic, 62,676 are white, 4,084 are Asian, 9,360 are another race, and data is not available for the remaining 29,403.
Nationwide, there have been at least 13,931,901 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States, including at least 273,590 deaths and 5,322,128 recoveries. The U.S. has conducted more than 195.6 million coronavirus tests to date as of 10 a.m. Thursday, according to a real-time dashboard created by Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
