When I say “famous horse,” you probably think California Chrome. But there’s more than one superstar equine out there: A Harford mare named Stormy has become internet famous over the past two weeks. When she delivered a foal this week, thousands of people were watching.
“The world is literally watching this horse,” says Sandra Armenteros, a friend and colleague of Jodie Otte, Stormy’s owner. Otte first pointed a live-streaming webcam of the very pregnant Stormy a couple of weeks ago; soon enough, thousands of people tuned in.
One of Stormy’s fans told CNN she thought Stormy’s live-streamed pregnancy was so popular in part because most people are very removed from the direct experience of animals. Or maybe it’s just because girls have always had a seemingly infinite appetite for watching horse videos.
On Tuesday morning, Stormy gave birth to a healthy filly named Pixie. That means the webcam is down for now (although you can watch plenty of others here). And for many more adorable horse pictures, check out Otte’s Facebook page.
