Feeling like youโ€™re sitting on the throne is key to operation of any motorized maintenance tool. Hardware store owner David Goldberg understands this. It just happened that the only throne he had lying around was a toilet.

Now that Maryland is among the ranks of the snow-covered states this winter, state law dictates that all residents are responsible for clearing the sidewalks outside their property. At Union Hardware in Bethesda, Goldberg devised a motorized sidewalk snowplow thatโ€™s inventive enough on its own. But the real attention grabber is the toilet seat.

Her name is Loo-cy.
