Maryland confirmed 51 more deaths related to the coronavirus on Friday as the state’s COVID-19 death total nears 5,000.
The new deaths reported on Friday is the highest daily amount that the state has recorded since 53 deaths reported on May 27.
Since the pandemic began in March, Maryland has confirmed that the deaths of at least 4,901 Marylanders were tied to coronavirus. There are also 163 deaths suspected to be related to coronavirus.
At least 228,471 Marylanders have tested positive for COVID-19, while 2,298,689 have tested negative as of Friday morning, according to the Maryland Department of Health’s COVID-19 Case Map Dashboard.
The state’s coronavirus caseload rose by 2,616, an increase of about 1.16%.
Maryland has completed 4,904,152 coronavirus tests to date, with 48,197 test results reported in the past 24 hours.
On average, 7.49% of the state’s coronavirus tests over the last seven days came back positive.
The seven-day average rate of positive tests yesterday was 7.91% for Marylanders younger than 35 and 7.24% for Marylanders older than 35.
Currently, 1,729 Marylanders are hospitalized with COVID-19, including 1,313 are in acute care and 416 are in intensive care.
The number of acute care patients rose by nine while the number of intensive care patients has remained the same for the third straight day, marking a net increase of nine more people hospitalized with coronavirus compared to Thursday.
Maryland has hospitalized a total of 23,009 people with COVID-19 to date.
As of 10 a.m. Friday, there have been 46,335 confirmed cases in Prince George’s County; 38,190 in Montgomery County; 33,125 in Baltimore County; 27,464 in Baltimore City; 19,547 in Anne Arundel County; 9,388 in Howard County; 8,363 in Frederick County; 6,978 in Harford County; 5,572 in Washington County; 4,994 in Charles County; 4,441 in Allegany County; 3,934 in Carroll County; 3,824 in Wicomico County; 2,674 in Cecil County; 2,608 in St. Mary’s County; 1,822 in Calvert County; 1,661 in Worcester County; 1,391 in Somerset County; 1,315 in Queen Anne’s County; 1,135 in Dorchester County; 1,130 in Caroline County; 1,116 in Garrett County; 931 in Talbot County; and 533 in Kent County, according to the dashboard.
Of Maryland’s confirmed cases, 9,883 are people age 9 or younger; 20,457 are people ages 10-19; 43,148 are people ages 20-29; 40,540 are people ages 30-39; 35,636 are people ages 40-49; 33,921 are people ages 50-59; 22,489 are people ages 60-69; 13,087 are people ages 70-79; and 9,310 are people age 80 or older.
Maryland has identified 120,192 of the confirmed COVID-19 patients as female and 108,279 as male.
Of the Marylanders who have tested positive for COVID-19, 67,520 are Black, 41,801 are Hispanic, 71,275 are white, 4,583 are Asian, 10,427 are another race, and data is not available for the remaining 32,865.
Nationwide, there have been at least 15,619,035 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States, including at least 292,196 deaths and 5,985,047 recoveries. The U.S. has conducted more than 213 million coronavirus tests to date as of 10 a.m. Friday, according to a real-time dashboard created by Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
