Maryland’s average COVID-19 positive test rate is continuing to rise as state officials on Wednesday recorded another day with more than 1,000 new confirmed cases.

The state’s coronavirus caseload grew by 1,366 new cases, an increase of 0.33%.

Before Maryland confirmed 903 new cases on Tuesday, the state saw six straight days of more than 1,000 cases per day starting March 24.

As of Wednesday morning, a total of 411,344 Marylanders have tested positive for COVID-19 to date, while 3,168,215 have tested negative as of Wednesday morning, according to the Maryland Department of Health’s COVID-19 Case Map Dashboard.

Maryland has completed 8,766,709 coronavirus tests to date, with 27,795 test results reported in the past 24 hours.

An average of 5.3% of the state’s COVID-19 tests over the last seven days came back positive, up from 5.24% on Tuesday.

The seven-day average rate of positive tests yesterday was 5.44% for Marylanders younger than 35 and 5.19% for Marylanders older than 35.

Currently, 1,030 Marylanders are hospitalized due to COVID-19, including 786 who are in acute care and 244 who are in intensive care.

The number of acute care patients ticked up by two while the number of intensive care patients declined by one, marking a net increase of one more people hospitalized with coronavirus compared to Tuesday.

To date, Maryland has hospitalized a total of 37,733 coronavirus patients.

State officials on Wednesday confirmed that 13 more Marylanders have died from COVID-19, raising the total number of coronavirus-related fatalities in the state to 8,101. There are also 185 deaths suspected to be related to coronavirus.

Of the two-dose vaccines, Maryland has administered a total of 1,720,473 first doses and 897,129 second doses.

In the past 24 hours, providers have administered 39,724 first doses and 29,026 second doses.

Maryland providers have also administered single-dose vaccines to a total of 72,322 people, including 1,623 doses that were administered in the past 24 hours.

A total of 969,451 Marylanders have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, state data showed on Wednesday.

As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, there have been 78,011 confirmed cases in Prince George’s County; 66,704 in Montgomery County; 55,856 in Baltimore County; 44,629 in Baltimore City; 38,894 in Anne Arundel County; 18,183 in Frederick County; 17,270 in Howard County; 14,053 in Harford County; 13,245 in Washington County; 9,724 in Charles County; 8,260 in Carroll County; 7,082 in Wicomico County; 6,530 in Allegany County; 5,409 in St. Mary’s County; 5,347 in Cecil County; 3,907 in Calvert County; 3,381 in Worcester County; 2,709 in Queen Anne’s County; 2,480 in Somerset County; 2,468 in Dorchester County; 2,120 in Caroline County; 1,958 in Talbot County; 1,904 in Garrett County; and 1,220 in Kent County, according to the dashboard.

Of the Marylanders who have tested positive for COVID-19, 121,368 are Black, 9,701 are Asian, 144,111 are white, 64,585 are Hispanic, 19,372 are another race, and data is not available for the remaining 52,207.

Maryland has identified 214,829 of the confirmed COVID-19 patients as female and 196,515 as male.

Of Maryland’s confirmed cases, 21,258 are people age 9 or younger; 40,463 are people ages 10-19; 75,178 are people ages 20-29; 70,446 are people ages 30-39; 61,950 are people ages 40-49; 61,849 are people ages 50-59; 41,704 are people ages 60-69; 23,337 are people ages 70-79; and 15,159 are people age 80 or older.

Nationwide, there have been at least 30,394,810 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States, including at least 551,005 deaths. The U.S. has conducted more than 391.1 million coronavirus tests to date as of 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to a real-time dashboard created by Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
