
Maryland’s average rate of positive coronavirus tests has decreased for the eight consecutive day, while the number of Marylanders currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 has increased for the third straight day, state data show.
Over the last seven days, an average of 2.6 percent of the state’s COVID-19 tests have come back positive.
That average has been declining since reaching 3.62 percent on Sept. 14.
The seven-day average rate of positive tests yesterday was 3.53 percent for Marylanders younger than 35 and 2.08 percent for Marylanders older than 35.
There are currently 332 Marylanders hospitalized due to coronavirus, including 253 patients in acute care and 79 in intensive care.
The number of acute care patients climbed by 21 while the number of intensive care patients rose by two, marking a net increase of 23 more people hospitalized with coronavirus compared to Tuesday.
Since the pandemic began, Maryland has hospitalized a total of 15,268 people with COVID-19.
At least 121,297 Marylanders have tested positive for COVID-19, while 1,430,808 have tested negative as of Wednesday morning, according to the Maryland Department of Health’s COVID-19 Case Map Dashboard.
The state’s total number of confirmed coronavirus cases rose by 385, an increase of 0.3 percent.
Maryland has completed 2,441,225 coronavirus tests to date, with 19,158 test results reported in the past 24 hours.
A total of 3,756 Marylanders have died from COVID-19, with eight additional deaths reported since Tuesday. There are also 146 deaths suspected to be related to coronavirus.
As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, there have been 28,784 confirmed cases in Prince George’s County; 22,002 in Montgomery County; 17,579 in Baltimore County; 15,329 in Baltimore City; 9,759 in Anne Arundel County; 4,983 in Howard County; 3,958 in Frederick County; 2,945 in Harford County; 2,725 in Charles County; 1,920 in Carroll County; 1,919 in Wicomico County; 1,691 in Washington County; 1,259 in St. Mary’s County; 1,025 in Cecil County; 1,020 in Worcester County; 920 in Calvert County; 645 in Queen Anne’s County; 638 in Caroline County; 578 in Dorchester County; 543 in Talbot County; 454 in Allegany County; 298 in Kent County; 251 in Somerset County; and 72 in Garrett County, according to the dashboard.
The state has confirmed 4,462 cases in people age 9 or younger; 10,015 in people ages 10-19; 22,735 in people ages 20-29; 21,933 in people ages 30-39; 19,407 in people ages 40-49; 17,645 in people ages 50-59; 11,839 in people ages 60-69; 7,091 in people ages 70-79; and 5,785 in people age 80 or older.
Maryland has identified 63,901 of the confirmed COVID-19 patients as female and 57,011 as male.
Of the Marylanders who have tested positive for COVID-19, 38,481 have been Black, 26,382 have been Hispanic, 29,945 have been white, 2,293 have been Asian, 5,559 have been another race, and data is not available for the remaining 18,252.
Nationwide, there have been at least 6,897,756 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States, including at least 200,818 deaths and 2,646,959 recoveries. More than 96.6 million people in the U.S. have been tested for COVID-19 as of 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to a real-time dashboard created by Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
