As of Wednesday, 1,776 Marylanders are currently hospitalized due to coronavirus, the second highest number since the pandemic began.

The highest amount of hospitalizations that Maryland has recorded since March was 1,799 hospitalized COVID-19 patients on Dec. 15.

There are 59 more COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Maryland compared to Tuesday.

The number of acute care patients climbed to 1,357, an increase of 40 patients, while the number of intensive care patients rose to 419, an increase of 19 patients.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Maryland has hospitalized a total of 25,072 people with coronavirus.

Maryland on Wednesday reported 49 more COVID-19 deaths. A total of 5,402 Marylanders have been confirmed to have died from coronavirus, while the deaths of another 166 residents are suspected to be related to the virus.

At least 257,862 Marylanders have tested positive for COVID-19, while 2,447,078 have tested negative as of Wednesday morning, according to the Maryland Department of Health’s COVID-19 Case Map Dashboard.

Maryland’s total number of confirmed coronavirus cases rose by 2,465, an increase of about 0.97%.

The state has completed 5,419,999 coronavirus tests to date, with 39,814 test results reported in the past 24 hours.

An average of 7.36% of the state’s coronavirus tests over the last seven days came back positive.

The seven-day average rate of positive tests yesterday was 7.72% for Marylanders younger than 35 and 7.18% for Marylanders older than 35.

As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, there have been 51,462 confirmed cases in Prince George’s County; 42,975 in Montgomery County; 36,582 in Baltimore County; 30,080 in Baltimore City; 22,366 in Anne Arundel County; 10,463 in Howard County; 10,065 in Frederick County; 7,979 in Harford County; 7,024 in Washington County; 5,664 in Charles County; 5,172 in Allegany County; 4,763 in Carroll County; 4,319 in Wicomico County; 3,270 in Cecil County; 2,982 in St. Mary’s County; 2,055 in Calvert County; 1,936 in Worcester County; 1,630 in Somerset County; 1,495 in Queen Anne’s County; 1,339 in Garrett County; 1,290 in Dorchester County; 1,232 in Caroline County; 1,055 in Talbot County; and 664 in Kent County, according to the dashboard.

Of the Marylanders who have tested positive for coronavirus, 11,525 are people age 9 or younger; 23,227 are people ages 10-19; 48,027 are people ages 20-29; 45,591 are people ages 30-39; 40,125 are people ages 40-49; 38,507 are people ages 50-59; 25,684 are people ages 60-69; 14,824 are people ages 70-79; and 10,352 are people age 80 or older.

Maryland has identified 135,488 of the confirmed COVID-19 patients as female and 122,374 as male.

Of the state’s confirmed cases, 75,524 are Black, 45,643 are Hispanic, 82,179 are white, 5,275 are Asian, 11,817 are another race, and data is not available for the remaining 37,424.

Nationwide, there have been at least 18,238,318 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States, including at least 322,851 deaths. The U.S. has conducted more than 233.8 million coronavirus tests to date as of 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to a real-time dashboard created by Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
