
Maryland’s coronavirus-related hospitalizations fell for the third day in a row on Friday, although the state continues to have more than 1,000 currently hospitalized COVID-19 patients.
Since reaching 1,282 COVID-19 patients on April 20, hospitalizations have decreased the past three days, reaching 1,188 on Friday.
Of those currently hospitalized due to COVID-19, 899 are in acute care and 289 are in intensive care.
The number of acute care patients fell by 36 while the number of intensive care patients declined by 11, marking a net decrease of 47 fewer people hospitalized with coronavirus compared to Thursday.
To date, Maryland has recorded a total of 40,737 coronavirus hospitalizations.
At least 441,155 Marylanders have tested positive for COVID-19, while 3,299,747 have tested negative as of Friday morning, according to the Maryland Department of Health’s COVID-19 Case Map Dashboard.
The state’s coronavirus caseload rose by 1,163, an increase of about 0.26%.
State officials confirmed that COVID-19 has been related to the deaths of 8,447 Marylanders, including eight deaths that were reported on Friday. There are also 186 deaths suspected to be related to coronavirus.
Maryland has completed 9,471,114 coronavirus tests to date, with 39,047 test results reported in the past 24 hours.
Over the last seven days, an average of 5.1% of the state’s COVID-19 tests have come back positive.
The seven-day average rate of positive tests yesterday was 5.6% for Marylanders younger than 35 and 4.74% for Marylanders older than 35.
Of the two-dose vaccines, Maryland has administered a total of 2,451,133 first doses and 1,589,309 second doses.
In the past 24 hours, providers have administered 35,388 first doses and 40,921 second doses.
Maryland providers have also administered single-dose vaccines to a total of 180,478 people, including 232 doses that were reported in the past 24 hours.
A total of 1,769,787 Marylanders have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, state data showed on Friday.
As of 10 a.m. Friday, there have been 82,029 confirmed cases in Prince George’s County; 69,238 in Montgomery County; 62,136 in Baltimore County; 49,950 in Baltimore City; 41,852 in Anne Arundel County; 19,244 in Frederick County; 18,600 in Howard County; 15,811 in Harford County; 13,971 in Washington County; 10,377 in Charles County; 8,962 in Carroll County; 7,367 in Wicomico County; 6,772 in Allegany County; 5,912 in Cecil County; 5,726 in St. Mary’s County; 4,102 in Calvert County; 3,526 in Worcester County; 2,877 in Queen Anne’s County; 2,643 in Dorchester County; 2,524 in Somerset County; 2,237 in Caroline County; 2,047 in Talbot County; 1,957 in Garrett County; and 1,295 in Kent County, according to the dashboard.
Maryland has confirmed a total of 23,915 coronavirus cases in people age 9 or younger; 44,610 in people ages 10-19; 80,968 in people ages 20-29; 75,544 in people ages 30-39; 66,038 in people ages 40-49; 66,065 in people ages 50-59; 44,124 in people ages 60-69; 24,331 in people ages 70-79; and 15,560 in people age 80 or older.
The state has identified 230,549 of the confirmed COVID-19 patients as female and 210,606 as male.
Of the Marylanders who have tested positive for COVID-19, 134,111 are Black, 10,627 are Asian, 155,463 are white, 67,466 are Hispanic, 20,636 are another race, and data is not available for the remaining 52,852.
Nationwide, there have been at least 31,931,027 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States, including at least 570,357 deaths. The U.S. has conducted more than 423.2 million coronavirus tests to date as of 10 a.m. Friday, according to a real-time dashboard created by Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
