The skies above Baltimore will light up again on Thursday night, Dec. 3, as the annual Monument Lighting welcomes the holiday season.
The Mt. Vernon ceremony is set to begin in the park to the west of the Washington Monument with food and entertainment at 4 p.m. Among the vendors are local favorites like Golden West Cafe, Slainte, Blue Moon Cafe and Zeke’s Coffee. New this year is a beer tent, with brews for $5.
The lighting itself is set for 7:45 p.m., with fireworks and a laser show to follow. It will be the first lighting since the completion of the monument’s big restoration project that wrapped up earlier this year.
The lights themselves also have a modern twist. Since bulbs would use a lot of energy, the monument is technically lit by 16,000 light emitting diodes.
