A North Baltimore favorite has new owners. After 23 years, Paul Schiffbauer sold the Curb Shoppe Bar and Grill in Mt. Washington to a group of investors.
According to a release, Schiffbauer sold the 82-year-old Falls Rd. establishment on Nov. 19 to a group known as Curb Shoppe LLC. He bought the bar when he was 26, and put the bar up for sale last year. He is planning to relocate to North Carolina.
The new owners include Tommy Hawkins, who ran kitchens at Slainte Irish Pub and Kooper’s North. Now he’ll run day-to-day operations. Hawkins said he grew up going there, and described the Curb Shoppe as his neighborhood bar.
The new owners are planning upgrades, but Hawkins said the “atmosphere will remain the same.” That will seemingly be important to continued success, as it’s a haunt for lots of regulars, including cops, lawyers and judges. In a 2012 interview with Baltimore Fishbowl, Martin Knott said it had the best vibe in the city, calling it “the perfect place to start or end an evening out.”
“I grew up here,” Hawkins said in a statement. “This is my neighborhood bar. When I was 13 I told Paul, I was going to come here to work someday.”
