Veterans Day is approaching, and for the seventh consecutive year, the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) honor all U.S. military veterans, active-duty military, and members of the National Guard and Reserves by offering them free transit rides on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025.
Regular schedules will be in effect for the holiday, and free rides will be available across the agency’s many modes of transit, including the Local Bus, Metro Subway, Light Rail, MARC Train, Commuter Bus and Mobility services.
“Veterans and service members are an important part of our community,” said Holly Arnold, Maryland Transit Administrator. “Offering complimentary transit trips is one way we can show our appreciation and make it easier for them to get where they need to go on this special day.”
Eligible riders will need to show one of three kinds of ID to ride for free:
- U.S. Department of Defense issued ID (Armed Forces/Uniformed Services/Military Retiree);
- U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs issued ID; or
- Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration Veteran designation on a driver’s license or state ID.
Other MTA customers can use the CharmPass mobile ticketing app for getting tickets. To navigate the transit system, the MTA recommends the Transit app, which offers real-time schedules, predicted arrival times, and step-by step navigation for all fixed-route services including Local Bus, Light Rail, Metro Subway, MARC Train, and Commuter Bus. The Transit app also gives riders alerts on any service disruptions.
In addition to offering veterans free rides across all the MTA’s modes of transit, the agency will participate in the Baltimore City Veterans Day Parade, which starts at noon on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025. The parade begins at the Washington Monument at Charles and Centre Streets.
According to Landing Zone Maryland, the state is home to approximately 360,000 veterans and another 100,000 active duty service members, Reservists, National Guard, and dependents.
