When Elon Musk set his sights on Maryland in early 2025, his actions took the form of DOGE-inflicted federal job losses, slashed funding, and takeovers of Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare.

Now he wants Marylandโ€™s only Republican representative in Congress, Andy Harris, to meet his demands or lose his seat.

With Musk now out of the government, and he and President Donald Trump on the outs, Musk has turned his fire on Trump and the Republicans who are helping pass his spending bill in Congress. According to his posts on X, the social media platform he owns, Musk vows to create a third political party if the bill is passed and to do everything in his power to make sure the Republican members of Congress who voted for it lose their next elections.

โ€œIf this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day,โ€ Musk wrote in one post on Monday.

โ€œEvery member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!โ€ he wrote in another post the same day. โ€œAnd they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.โ€

One of Muskโ€™s biggest issues with the bill involves the debt ceiling increase, which will be the largest in history. In another post, he singled out Freedom Caucus leaders Harris and Texasโ€™s Chip Roy, asking โ€œHow can you call yourself the Freedom Caucus if you vote for a DEBT SLAVERY bill with the biggest debt ceiling increase in history? @RepAndyHarrisMD @chiproytxโ€. The two House Republicans position themselves as leading budget-cutters.

On Fox News, “America Reports” co-anchor John Roberts asked Harris about Muskโ€™s call-out, and Harris agreed with Musk, saying he would not vote for the bill as it is right now.

โ€œWell, that’s exactly why a group of us are not going to vote to advance the bill until we iron out some of the deficit problems,โ€ Harris said. โ€œMr. Musk is right that we cannot sustain these deficits. He understands finances. He understands debts and deficits, and we have to make further progress, and I believe the Freedom Caucus will take the lead in making that further progress.โ€

Harris did not vote to pass the bill out of the House the first time, either. He had planned to vote โ€œNoโ€ because of the deficit increase, but after pressure from Trump, the Maryland congressman voted โ€œPresent.โ€ The Senate version passed only because Vice President J.D. Vance broke the tie.

The bill contains $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid, which will cause up to 20 million people to lose their health care coverage. In a social media post, Vance called that fact โ€œminutiaeโ€ compared to the amount of money ICE will now receive.

โ€œEverything elseโ€”the CBO score, the proper baseline, the minutiae of the Medicaid policyโ€”is immaterial compared to the ICE money and immigration enforcement provisions,โ€ Vance wrote on X.

The bill is now in the House of Representatives. To find your representativesโ€™s phone number, click this link.

  1. If Andy Harris doesn’t vote for Trump’s BBB he should hang his head in shame. He can publicly claim he did not support it because of the deficit, but he knows that’s simply an excuse.
The real reason is that he’s being pressured by Musk. Musk should not be able to pressure Congressmen into voting against this Bill simply because Trump is not giving him his EV tax breaks and has pulled Musk’s friend to head up NASA. I’ve lost all respect for Musk.
The BBB stops the greatest tax increase in the history of America that will automatically happen if the Bill fails. Also, overtime and tips will continue to be taxed if it fails.
Also, Andy Harris is dead wrong about the phony increase of $100B in the deficit. That number was generated by the CBO (supposedly independent but controlled by Democrats just like the Parliamentarian) who scored the Bill so to kill it. The OMB said it would reduce the deficit substantially.
It appears that Andy Harris is looking for a scapegoat to blame his vote against the Bill so Musk doesn’t spend money against him.
I have always had much respect for Andy since his Senate days. I would be greatly disappointed in him if he did not support the Bill and it failed.

  2. Whether or not Musk pays him a dime, I donโ€™t thinks Andy Harris is anything for Marylanders to be proud of, and his votes donโ€™t do much to help us. Those campaign signs he put out last time โ€œIโ€™m with Andyโ€ should have had a subtitle. โ€œ..we both down with Trump wrecking our country!โ€
