Ready your bargain-hunting attire, Baltimore. The Greater Baltimore Medical Center’s Nearly New Sale returns next week, with its highly anticipated spring fundraising shopping event.
The Nearly New Sale offers an opportunity to purchase gently used treasures, from furniture, clothing and housewares to appliances, sporting goods and toys, all at nominal prices. In recent years, the Baltimore Sun reports, the event has raised approximately $250,000 annually for patient care at the hospital. Proceeds have gone to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the GBMC Center for Neurology, the Gilchrist Kids Endowment Fund and a new state-of-the-art surgical simulation lab for clinicians and nurses on campus.
The exact offering of products changes every year, with nearly 700 individuals and businesses donating new and gently used goods for the sale. Because of that, price points can vary greatly. A pair of designer heels can be found among big box brands. It wouldn’t be unheard of to see a $1,000 wedding dress purchased alongside a $5 box of craft supplies or a $50 antique side table.
Donors get first pick, with exclusive days of shopping before the sale opens to the public, and while donations are closed for this season’s sale, they will open up again in preparation for another fall sale, starting soon after the spring event concludes.
The event runs Saturday, April 29, and Sunday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday, May 3, and Thursday, May 4 (half-price days) from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m, and for a final Saturday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The last day is “bargain bag day,” in which the space — once completely full of merchandise on opening day — will be all but emptied by customers stuffing bags full at a $5 price tag.
Don’t miss the chance to check out the Nearly New Sale for yourself and pick up the deal of a lifetime while helping GBMC raise funds to support critical needs for patients and our community.
