Nouveau Contemporary Goods announced today that it is moving from Belvedere Square to historic Mount Vernon. Nouveau co-owners Steve Appel and Lee Whitehead have leased 2,300 square feet at 10 West Eager Street and plan to reopen the store in late October 2014.

The move coincides with the store’s name change to Nouveau Home & Interior Design, and its design studio name change from Whitehead & Appel to Nouveau Interior Design. The new name reflects an increased emphasis on transitional as well as contemporary furnishings.

Since 2004, the Nouveau store has been located at on Belvedere Avenue, where it has anchored the north side of Baltimore’s popular shopping destination, Belvedere Square. In 2007, the owners successfully opened a full-service design studio, which now serves corporate and residential clients.

According to Appel, the move represents a return to Nouveau’s “roots” – its first official home on North Charles Street, where it became the city’s go-to place for home décor.

“We are excited to move back downtown because of all the luxury rental apartments that have opened up. It’s also really cool to see some of the familiar faces from when we were there before. It feels like coming home, especially since both Lee and I are already downtown residents.”

Adds Appel: “We have always identified ourselves with Mount Vernon, its history, its culture, and its unique Baltimore charm. With the trend toward urban living, it makes perfect sense for us to be in the heart of the City near our current and our future customers.”

The new location is adjacent to downtown hotspot, City Café, and provides parking nearby. The store’s new retail concept will feature accessories and gifts as well as furniture.

As part of its transition, Nouveau will hold a moving sale on in-stock furniture, rugs, lighting, wall art, and home accessories, starting immediately, at Belvedere Square. Store hours are Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The store is closed Sunday. Information is available on the store’s Facebook page, athttp://www.nouveaubaltimore.com and by calling the store at (410) 962-8248.

Nouveau Contemporary Goods was founded as a boutique by childhood friends Steve Appel and Lee Whitehead in Howard County’s historic Savage Mill in 1986. They relocated the boutique and expanded to a full-fledged store at 519 North Charles Street in 1987. Through their award-winning store and its design service, the co-owners have served thousands of homeowners, businesses, and non-profits throughout the region, with a dedication to customer service and a mission to make Baltimore more beautiful, one home and one business, at a time.
