Whenever Gov. Martin O’Malley is asked about his presidential ambitions, he says something about being flattered and then something else about focusing all his energy on his gubernatorial responsibilities right now. So we’ll assume that his March 23 trip to South Carolina to smile at a bunch of Democrats in an early primary state is just the least he could do for Maryland, somehow.
O’Malley was invited to speak at a conference of Democrats by South Carolina state Sen. Vincent Sheheen, who just might challenge Republican Gov. Nikki Haley next year. So O’Malley will talk about the need to elect a Democrat to that position — after a little bragging about his work in Maryland, of course.
