Picture this: a relaxed Sunday evening, browsing books in a favorite bookshop with the sound of a Haydn in the background.  No it’s not a scene from a Woody Allen movie, it’s real life on Sunday, December 9 at 5:00 when the Ivy Bookshop hosts a special holiday performance by the Peabody Institute’s Kubrick Quartet, performing works by Haydn, Bartok and Beethoven. Fine music and good reading: what better way to kick-off the holiday season?

Comprised of four deeply musical characters, Kubrick Quartet is dedicated to presenting the string quartet literature with passion. Formed in 2011 at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Kubrick Quartet, selected as one of the Honors Ensemble in 2011, has displayed a high level of performance both technically and musically in its short time as a quartet. Kubrick Quartet has participated in the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar and the Beethoven Institute, and has performed in Baltimore and New York City. In both master classes and coachings, Kubrick Quartet has worked with Takacs, Orion, Jupiter, Juilliard and Brentano string quartets as well as Soovin Kim, Ara Gregorian and Colin Carr.

All members of Kubrick Quartet are currently pursuing either an undergraduate or graduate degree at the Peabody Conservatory. Their mentors include Michael Kannen and Maria Lambros.

Don’t miss the Kubrick Quartet at the Ivy Bookshop, 6080 Falls Road, on December 9 at 5 p.m.  For more information visit the Ivy Bookshop website.
