This semester, twelve Johns Hopkins students are lucky enough to be learning about film and music from someone who knows all about those things– 80s pop star (“She Blinded Me With Science”) Thomas Dolby.
We reported on Dolby’s hire earlier this year; now, he’s actually in the classroom/recording studio, and it looks pretty cool (though it’s too bad he’s switched out his 80s style for a more normal-prof look):
In the Film & Media Studies department class, which incorporates elements of both music and technology, students will be tasked with creating their own soundtrack to a film they make for the class. Dolby, who describes himself as “a meddler, a tinkerer” hopes to distill some of his own DIY spirit into his students. That’s one lucky group of 12, to be sure.
