To celebrate Earth Day, Professor Trash Wheel is inviting 30 Constellation volunteers to stand under their umbrella (ella, ella, eh, eh, eh) in their rain gardens near the Harris Creek outfall.
Waterfront Partnership‘s Healthy Harbor Initiative created Professor Trash Wheel‘s rain gardens in 2019, with the goal of capturing polluted runoff from a nearby street and preventing it from spilling over into the Inner Harbor. It was funded by Chesapeake Bay Trust and Baltimore City of Public Works and designed by CityScape Engineering, LLC and Mahan Rykiel Associates, Inc.
In celebration of National Volunteer Month and Earth Day, 30 volunteers from Constellation will assist with weeding, mulching, planting, shoreline cleanup, and more. Theyโll also have the chance to make seed balls and bird feeders.
Earth Dayโs 2024 theme is โPlanet vs. Plastics,โ and calls for spreading awareness on the health risk of plastics, phasing out single use plastics, and more.
National Volunteer Month is held in April every year to celebrate and recognize the contributions of volunteers and encourage people to get involved in their communities.
Constellation is a Fortune 200 company headquartered in Baltimore, and the nationโs largest producer of clean energy. 90% of its annual input is carbon-free.
This Earth Day event will take place on Monday, April 22, 2024, from 1 pm to 4 pm at Harris Creek Park. The park is located at 2600 Boston Street.
Professor Trash Wheel loves her rain gardens, but she REALLY loves volunteers who help maintain them, becauseโฆwhen the sun shines we shine together.*
*While Professor Trash Wheel is a Beyoncรฉ devotee, she is fine with Rihanna references because she supports ALL girl bosses.
