The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) will hold a virtual public meeting to discuss the growth and plans for the MARC Train on Thursday, Dec. 12 from 6:30 p.m. โ 8 p.m.
The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and MTA want the publicโs opinion to help them shape the vision and goals of the MARC system. At the Dec. 12 meeting, officials will be on hand to discuss the ongoing MARC Growth and Transformation Plan. Attendees can hear about the options being considered for future service on the MARC trains. They can also participate in breakout sessions for smaller group discussions.
โOver the last several months, MTA has undertaken a major effort to develop preferred scenarios for future MARC service,โ said Holly Arnold, Maryland Transit Administrator. โPublic input on these plans is critical to expanding MARC service and improving regional connectivity.โ
The MARC Train is a commuter train system made up of three rail lines: The Brunswick Line, Camden Line, and Penn Line. They go to Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Martinsburg, West Virginia. MARC Trains also connect to Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), Amtrak, and local and intercity bus service.
The Camden and Brunswick Lines operate on weekdays, while the Penn Line operates seven days a week.
The Growth and Transformation Plan will include scenarios for 5 and ten years out on potential services that MARC may offer on its lines. The MTA began the MARC Growth and Transformation plan in October 2023 with an online survey and public comment period. More than 4,600 responses rolled in. The top priorities that emerged included expanded weekend service, improved frequency and service to new destinations.
The MTA encourages as many as possible to attend the meeting, participate in the breakout sessions and provide input. They can also send feedback to this email link.
