For more than a decade, Baltimoreans have gone to Red Maple in Mt. Vernon to sip cocktails in the flattering light of the lounge’s many fireplaces. Your last chance to do so will come at the end of this month, when Red Maple will close forever.
“We hope to use the next few weeks as a time to reminisce, say goodbye and share a few more cocktails with all of the many great friends, customers, current and former associates and staff,” owner Leonard Clarke wrote on Facebook.
The Baltimore Sun reports that 930 N. Charles Street has been purchased by Ryan Perlberg (of Federal Hill’s Bookmaker’s Cocktail Club), who plans to open a venue called Sangria that would cater to “young professionals.”
Even if you think you’ve never been to Red Maple, you most likely have seen its interior; the lounge served as a stand-in for “swanky D.C. club” in House of Cards several times.
