Democratic Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger on Tuesday announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19, joining a growing number of cases in Congress. 

Ruppersberger โ€“ who turns 76 on Jan 31. โ€“ is fully vaccinated and boosted, he said in a news release. 

He tested positive Monday night and is currently quarantining at home with mild symptoms, according to the release.

On Monday, four members of Congress announced that they had tested positive for COVID-19, adding on to five other members saying the same since Friday afternoon. 

Congress is stepping up its health protocols amid the surge, urging members to wear N95 or KN95 masks and restoring social distancing protocols for floor votes.

Ruppersberger โ€“ whose district includes parts of Howard, Harford, Baltimore, and Anne Arundel Counties, as well as smaller portions of Baltimore City โ€“ urged residents to wear masks and get vaccinated. 

โ€œWe all need to do what we can to protect our families, colleagues and healthcare heroes โ€“ please get your shots, limit gatherings and mask up,โ€ he said.
