Get ready for traffic changes if you’re traveling through East Baltimore.

Lane changes will be implemented along the Harford Road Bridge over the CSX railway between Montpelier and East 25th streets, as crews rebuild the bridge as part of the Howard Street Tunnel Project.

The work is being done between Clifton Park and Coldstream-Homestead-Montebello, near REACH! Partnership School in East Baltimore.

During the first phase of the construction project, lanes have been closed on the west side of the bridge. With that phase nearing completion, crews will soon open up lanes on the west side, and close lanes on the east side to begin the second phase of construction.

The new traffic patterns will affect vehicle and pedestrian traffic in both directions on Harford Road. Changes will include:

  • The Harford Road entrance to REACH! Partnership School’s south parking lot will be closed for the duration of Phase 2. The south parking lot can be accessed off St. Lo Drive.
  • Pedestrians will have to use the sidewalk on the west side of Harford Road, as the east side sidewalk will be closed.
  • Parents and guardians must drop off and pick up students north of the REACH! Partnership School.
  • Northbound traffic on Harford Road will be reduced to one lane, while southbound traffic will be restored to two lanes.
