If you’ve been out walking in Fells Point lately, you have undoubtedly seen a clean, three-story brick hotel taking shape on the site of the historic Recreation Pier. The construction, coupled with the ongoing utility work on nearby roads, makes it hard to miss.
That building is the planned Sagamore Pendry Hotel, which should be open by mid-to-late February, according to the Baltimore Business Journal. The hotel had been eyeing an opening in early 2017 and apparently is still on pace to hit that mark.
Pendry Hotels is a brand run by the California-based company Montage Hotels & Resorts. Sagamore picked it to operate the hotel this past June when they were already well into construction. According to Pendry’s website, it will have 128 rooms, a restaurant and bar, an outdoor pool with a view of the harbor and a fitness and wellness center by the time it is finished. The company describes the building on the former site of the historic pier as a “community centerpiece for the Fells Point neighborhood.”
Baltimore’s Pendry hotel is the first on the East Coast, and is named after its developer, an arm of Under Armour CEO Kevin’s Plank’s Sagamore Ventures. They’re not taking reservations just yet, but it shouldn’t be much longer before you can book an expensive stay at the hotel right in the center of Fells Point.
Sagamore Pendry? Just screams Baltimore and Fells Point, doesn’t it?
