Max’s Taphouse will be hosting their (newly) annual Sour Fest on June 10th – 12th, 2022 – quickly approaching in just a few days! The taphouse, located at 737 S. Broadway, will open at 11:30am daily to serve patrons the juiciest sour beers available. There is no cover/fee for the event.
In preparation of the event, Max’s has acquired 75 kegs along with a few cans to highlight the art of sour beers. These vary in style from lighter sour ales and goses to heavily fruited sours. Roughly one-third of the featured beers are from Maryland breweries, in an effort to encourage patrons to drink local. Customers can sample sours in 5oz, 10oz or 14oz pours.

Featured this year will also be an exclusive keg of “Sublime JREAM to the MAX,” a collaboration beer that the Max’s beer staff made at Burley Oak Brewing Company in Berlin, MD. Made with raspberries, key lime pie and pistachio, it’s a thick one! There were only 2 kegs of this made, meaning it will only be available at Max’s for the festival and on draft at the brewery. Prior to 2019, Max’s used to offer Sour Day, held on Presidents Day following the annual Belgian Beer Festival.
Over the last few years, sour beer has become increasingly popular in the U.S. and thus, Max’s opted to expand this to its own festival. This is the second annual weekend, but Sour Day was held for over 10 years. All of these feature drafts are in addition to Max’s Taphouse’s “typical” draft offerings. The taphouse will feature over 30 additional kegs in alternative styles including but not limited to lagers, wheat ales, porters, ciders, kolsches, IPAs and stouts.

This event is in person. However, guests can order at shop.maxs.com day of and receive any of the draft beers in 8oz, 19.2oz and 32oz pours to go for enjoyment at home (at #YOURhouse!).
