Horizon Day Camp, a full-summer day camp in Maryland for children with cancer, has been awarded $10,000 donation to support transportation for the campers, helping the children enjoy the experience free of cost.

The nonprofit Horizon Day Camp aims to restore the joy of childhood to children with cancer and their families. The camp serves children throughout the state of Maryland offering a full-summer day camp, year-round programs, and in-hospital activities free of charge for children with cancer and their siblings. These programs give families facing childhood cancer a much-needed rest, while creating joyful experiences.

The camp has support from pediatric oncologists and nurses, enabling children of all mobility levels to attend. More than 160 children can thrive in an emotionally and socially safe environment.

The $10,000 comes from RCM&D, an independent insurance advisory firm. The firm initially received a $5,000 donation through the Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance 2025 Make More Happen Awards program for its partnership with Horizon Day Camp. After their story was featured on RMC&Dโ€™s Make More Happen site, the community came through with a surge of votes and comments, triggering a matching donation, which brought the total to $10,000.

RCM&D have a long, meaningful relationship with Horizon Day Camp. Its employees serve on the campโ€™s board, volunteer at the camp every summer, and participate in fundraising walks with the campโ€™s families. The firm hosts an annual toy drive and holiday celebration for families in treatment, featuring music, crafts, and visits from Santa and the Oriole Bird โ€” the visits thrilling younger and older patients alike.

โ€œRecognizing independent agentsโ€™ dedication to their communities and nonprofit partners is what the Make More Happen Awards are all about,โ€ said Lori Monsky, Senior Territory Manager for Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance. โ€œRCM&D is an outstanding example of how agencies can make a real difference, and we hope sharing their story inspires others to give back as well.โ€

Throughout 2025, Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance will choose up to 36 independent agencies around the country for a Make More Happen Award, donating up to $360,000 to these nonprofits supported by the insurance agencies. Agencies can apply for the award by demonstrating their commitment and partnership to a specific cause the way RMC&D have supported Horizon Day Camp.
