Boys Latin Robotics Team Places Fourth in World Competition

On Saturday, April 27, the Boys’ Latin Upper School Robotics Team, Lumberjack Robotics #2534, stepped onto Ford Field in Detroit, MI for the final round of the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) World Championships and walked off with a fourth-place finish! No other team from Baltimore made it to Worlds, and no other team from Maryland advanced to the finals, also known as Einsteins.

Roboquake on Lake Returns to Boys’ Latin This Saturday, 1/26

For the third year in a row, Boys’ Latin School will host a FIRST LEGO League Tournament and a FIRST LEGO League Junior Expo on Saturday, January 26, 2019. Called “Roboquake on Lake,” this exciting, hands-on day will provide FIRST LEGO League teams from the local area with an opportunity to showcase their hard work and share their inventions with fellow teams and with the community. Over 200 students will participate and over 50 volunteers will be used to make “Roboquake on Lake” a success. Both events are free and open to spectators so come check it out with the family – it’s out of this world!

Gilman Graduation Ceremony 2018

The 115 members of Gilman’s Class of 2018 marked their high school graduation on Sunday, June 10. Speakers included valedictorian Matthew Ziwen Mu, Board of Trustees President Scott Wieler, and Headmaster Henry P.A. Smyth. Before the graduates received their diplomas, several students won awards for scholarship, athletic performance, or community service. In what has become a tradition, Gilman’s a cappella group, the Traveling Men, sang “The Parting Song,” based on a 17th-century Scottish song. To conclude the ceremony, pairs of graduates left the stage with a special handshake, hug, or selfie. Congratulations to these new Gilman alumni:

Carey Foundation Endows College Counseling Center and Lecture Series at Gilman School

Headmaster Henry P. A. Smyth announced a $3 million investment from the W. P. Carey Foundation to endow the Gilman School college counseling program. This leadership gift to the School’s First Things First campaign is the largest donation to support college counseling received by the School. 

Boys’ Latin Recognizes Senior Student Athletes

The Boys’ Latin School of Maryland held an event this week to recognize and celebrate 31 seniors who have been invited and agreed to play for a college team in the fall.

Over the past few months, the fifth graders at Boys’ Latin have risen to the occasion of being big brothers to their kindergarten and pre-first “buddies.” Their teachers have watched their personal transformations as they assumed their responsibilities as role models to their little brothers.

At the age of six, Gilman School senior Mekhi Johnson heard a radio story about a student who was accepted at all of the Ivy League schools and told his mother, “I’m going to do that one day.”

Two Boys’ Latin Senior Athletes Sign National Letters of Intent

The Boys’ Latin School of Maryland held an event yesterday to recognize and celebrate two senior athletes who have signed National Letters of Intent to play NCAA Division I and II college lacrosse next year.

Mason Russell will play at the University of Alabama Huntsville and Jack Morton will play at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). 

Boys’ Latin Celebrates Fourth Annual One Laker – One Love Day

For the fourth year in a row, Boys’ Latin students in all three divisions have participated in the school’s annual One Laker | One Love Day. The event, which was held this year on April 6, explores the ways that students can build healthier relationships and be ambassadors for positive change.
