Black cats are a fitting addition to any home come Halloween. And more importantly, many of them also make great pets, especially when they’re in need of a family. For two more days, all black and orange cats being housed at the Baltimore County Animal Shelter are available for adoption at no cost.

Firefighters are famous for rescuing cats stranded in trees. That’s mostly a myth, as it turns out–but our four-legged friends still have a lot to thank firefighters for.

bru with ladies
Bru, one of the pets of the week from the Baltimore Humane Society.

Hello there! I’m Bru, a big handsome boy looking for that special someone. I enjoy brisk strolls in the sun, rolling in the grass, and playing a game of tug or fetch. I also like belly rubs, booty scratches, and snuggling on the sofa. I’m a pretty smart guy…did I mention I can sit, lay down, and give BOTH paws? I’d love to learn some new things too!! Now I’ll be honest, sometimes I get excited and forget my manners, but I’m a really good listener… especially when treats are involved. I’m looking for someone to be patient (it is a virtue, after all) and understanding; someone who is interested in a committed relationship. I’m looking for my forever home. Could it be with you? I’m a staff favorite…stop by for a visit and see why!!

Sammy2 dog terrier

Hey, I’m Sammy, a four year old English Springer Spaniel/Beagle mix who will make a great and loyal companion for someone who wants to adopt me!! In one of my previous foster homes I lived with cats and a dog. I seem to ignore the cats and did well with the dog (we tolerate each other happily:) I enjoy being outside and going for walks and really enjoy getting my back scratched. If you are interested in meeting me, please visit BHS soon. I am super sweet and hope to meet you very soon!

Charm City Animal Rescue raided by Animal Control

WJZ reports that Baltimore City Animal Control had to rescue 35 cats from Charm City Animal Rescue on Hudson Street in Canton due to unsanitary conditions. After “numerous complaints,” Animal Control got a warrant to search the facility and found “a strong smell of animal waste, unclean litter boxes and more than a dozen sick cats.”

Charm City Animal Rescue’s Web site (as well as its Facebook page) still advises people looking to adopt animals that the organization “currently [does] not have a facility,” but according to a poorly formatted Web page at Baltimore Guide, CCAR did in fact begin leasing a facility on the 2800 block of Hudson Street in February of this year to serve as an “outgoing only” cat adoption facility. Seeing as it’s not yet May, it seems that things went South rather quickly.

Jazz
Jazz

Are you looking for someone to “jazz” up your life? Well here I am! My name is Jazz and I am a playful boy in need of a forever home.

I really enjoy cuddle time and giving kisses. I am quite the gentleman, if I do say so myself. I walk really well on a leash and even know some commands if you give me a crunchy treat! My favorite thing is to get rubs. I love a good scratch. If you want a fun loving boy that will keep you entertained, stop in and say hello!
