On Wednesday evening, five Baltimore book lovers shared excerpts from works they’ve adored for some time, novels and nonfiction that landed on the World Book Night reading list for 2013. Afterward, volunteers with Moveable Feast were all set to deliver boxes of great paperbacks to less fortunate Baltimoreans in need of a great read.

Fierce Chicks Rock Throw a Rocking Yard Sale

Moveable Feast is a phenomenal organization.  They provide healthy meals for Maryland residents with cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other severe illnesses.  A variety of local organizations have come together to raise money and find food to help further Moveable Feast’s mission, from Gather Baltimore to Fierce Chicks ROCK.  Fierce Chicks is a group of determined women who fundraise throughout the year for Moveable Feast.  Each May, they bike over 140 miles from Ocean City to Baltimore in two days, with each woman raising $1,300 – the cost of feeding one client at Moveable Feast for an entire year.

Tomorrow they are throwing their annual yard sale, with all proceeds to benefit their fundraising goal.  From 7:00a to 1:00 pm they can be found at the corner of Barclay and 31st in Charles Village, just a few steps away from the Waverly Market.  Stop on by to see what goods they’ve found, what deals abound, and help these incredible women reach their worthy goal.

Karaoke Smackdown Benefit for Moveable Feast

Baltimore is a city wealthy in karaoke options.  From Canton to Mount Vernon, Hampden to Roland Park, there is at least one location where you can pick up a mic and bust out your favorite tunes.

Baltimore is a city equally wealthy in amazing nonprofits; one of the most incredible ones is Moveable Feast. From their site: “Moveable Feast provides nutritious foods and other services in order to preserve quality of life for people with HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening conditions.”

This Saturday, enjoy a fusion of the best aspects of Baltimore’s karaoke and nonprofit scenes when Moveable Feast hosts their Second Annual Karaoke Smackdown Benefit at Liam Flynn’s in Station North.  Presented by team Fierce Chicks (name somewhat self-explanatory), you and your friends are welcome to challenge these hardcore, fundraising, singing ladies to a mic throwdown of epic proportions.  Bring some cash for Moveable Feast and prove your pipes are competitive.
