Port of Baltimore receives federal grant to deepen berth

The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded the Port of Baltimore a $6.6 million grant to deepen an existing berth, the area where a cargo ship is moored, allowing two supersized container ships to offload cargo simultaneously.

The feds are pitching in to help the Port of Baltimore cut down on its emissions with a $2.45 million grant to replace trucks and conventional diesel cargo-hauling equipment with clean diesel technology.

Freight rail operator CSX has withdrawn its support for the much-awaited expansion of the Howard Street Tunnel, killing a dream of a significant future boost in productivity for the Port of Baltimore.
