I heard a rumor this weekend that The Corner Pantry, the under-construction gourmet-to-go cafe in Lake Falls Village, was to open today. I called to get the skinny and learned from the co-owner, Emily Howell, that the eatery has not opened, but will do so before February 14.
Emily’s husband Neill Howell is the chef at The Corner Pantry, which will offer catering in addition to light food and a full to-go menu. He left Bond Street Social in Fells Point in the fall to open The Corner Pantry. Neill is from Colchester, England (the cafe will offer afternoon tea…a nod to his heritage, perhaps?) and has worked in the food industry in London, New York, Los Angeles and Baltimore. He was executive chef at Bond Street Social, but before that he served as executive chef at The Stanton Social in New York and Soho House New York, where the couple met.
Emily, who grew up in Baltimore and attended Notre Dame Prep, will partner with Neill in the business handling graphic design, event planning, hospitality and more. The couple live in Rodgers Forge with their toddler, Annabelle.
The Corner Pantry, at 6080 Falls Road, will be open Monday through Friday from 7am – 7pm and Saturday from 8am – 5pm for breakfast, lunch, and gourmet-to-go. Breakfast will feature coffee, a range of house made baked goods, breakfast specialties, smoothies and fresh juices. Lunch will include a made-to-order chopped salad bar, “daily special” counter service, and sandwiches. The cafe will serve Afternoon Tea from 2-4:30pm. The Corner Pantry is also available to cater events, large and small.
We’ll keep you posted on when it opens.
