Don’t tell Columbia that the age of brick-and-mortar shopping is over. It’s no use. The Mall in Columbia — catchy, huh? — is opening up 70,000-square-foot (30,000 redeveloped; 40,000 added) “open-air lifestyle center and streetscape” that will eventually host 15 to 20 new restaurateurs and retailers.
Two retailers will open shop in November: Lingerie and beauty store Soma Intimates and “Italian market and art-dealer” (what?) Secolari.
Three more operations are set for 2014: Mediterranean restaurant Zoës Kitchen, grill and wine bar Seasons 52, and home furnishings store Arhaus.
It’s heartening to know that some companies are actually optimistic about the economy. Then again, it’s kind of easy to be optimistic about Howard County.
