Last October, the New York Times identified the Maryland flag pattern on shorts, pants, socks, shoes, hats, and shirts around the University of Maryland campus. Yes, they ventured to guess, the distinctive pattern was starting to become a trend. Now, one year later, those instincts have been proven right–the Maryland flag seems like it’s on everyone’s clothes, and not just in College Park.

The Baltimore Sun has a nice round-up of various companies selling everything from Maryland flag-patterned bikinis to crab-shell Christmas ornaments. Also available: nail art, sports bras, yoga pants, tuxedos… okay, you get the picture.

In other words, we’ve come a long way since 2011, when the new flag-themed uniforms for the University of Maryland were called the worst college football uniforms in the country. Sometimes a trend just takes a little while to catch on.
