The Saul Zaentz Innovation Fund (SZIF) is currently accepting applications for its 2017 programs. The SZIF seeks audio-visual content for development and production – from documentaries to virtual reality experiences, augmented reality apps, short films, feature scripts, episodic pilots, and everything in between. The application is open to all Baltimore residents.

The mission of the SZIF is to identify new and unique Baltimore-based innovators to write, design, produce and distribute audio-visual content. The Fund supports groundbreaking projects that advance the art and craft audiovisual media, and develop them through its Labs and Incubator program. The Fund also helps connect these individuals with people from the creative community across the US and the world for mentoring, knowledge sharing, and team building. There is a financial component at the end of each round, which only its Fellows can apply for.
Since its launch, the Fund has had a direct impact on Baltimore based artists and filmmakers. Over the last year the Fund has awarded over $400,000 in production and development support to 19 Fellows. Additionally, the Fund provided mentorship and production assistance to 37 Baltimore based artists.
Every SZIF project must be produced in Baltimore. The production and creation of these projects in the city is a critical requirement for receiving funding supported by the Fund.
“These projects reflect the essential voices and unique stories found in Baltimore,” said Roberto Busó-García, director of the Fund and the University’s Master of Arts in Film and Media program. “As we continue to identify and advance the work of aspiring artists, we will also allocate resources to provide them with on-going consulting and support from industry professionals.”
The SZIF is accepting submissions for its Film & Media Incubator, Screenplay Lab and Documentary Lab. Projects must be in the development stage and able to be produced in Baltimore. The application is due March 31st.
