The Prom is coming to Baltimore.
Baltimoreโs Hippodrome Theatre at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center announced this week that ticket sales begin Friday for the national touring production of The Prom, which will have eight shows there from Jan. 18-23, 2022.
This is the first appearance in Baltimore for the musical comedy, which opened on Broadway in 2018 and was adapted for a film version that was released on Netflix in 2020. The show follows four Broadway actors who travel to Indiana to help a lesbian student banned from bringing her girlfriend to her high school prom.
The Hippodrome at 12 North Eutaw Street was dormant for much of 2020 due to restrictions on public gatherings to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Shows resume next week, with Pretty Woman: The Musical, running from Sept. 28-Oct. 3.
The Prom was part of the Hippodromeโs 2021-2022 lineup when the theaterโs eight-show package was announced earlier this year. Starting Friday, non-package tickets for The Prom will be on sale through Ticketmaster.com.
Other shows in the 2021-2022 lineup at the Hippodrome include: Tootsie, December 14 to 19; Summer: Dear Evan Hansen, March 15 to 20, 2022; Ainโt Too Proud, May 3 to 8, 2022; Hairspray, June 14 to 19, 2022; Mean Girls, July 12 to 17, 2022; and Hamilton, October 4 to 30, 2022.
