Tips, Products, and Styles for Holiday Hair from Salon Method

With all of the holiday hullabaloo—that is, shopping, cooking, shopping, hosting, decorating, shopping, packing, wrapping, driving, and then shopping—getting your hair just so for the season (or a particular event) might not stand out as something that needs to be at the top of your To Do list. But we beg to differ. As anyone who’s ever made a well-timed salon appointment can tell you, that hour or so of enforced (and oh-so-welcome) relaxation can buy you some major energy reserves for later. After all, when you walk into a place, get your scalp massaged and your hair washed (like, really washed—by an expert), and then sit passively as you’re primped and made-over to perfection—you walk out both looking and feeling totally fresh and new. You’re ready to take on whatever challenges await you—and you’ll look great doing so. Which is why we’re recommending you give yourself the holiday gift of making an appointment (like, yesterday—they’re quite busy) at Salon Method in Ruxton.

Method opened earlier this year— founded by Joanne Mandato and Dorie Polakoff, who’d met years prior, working at Studio 1612. The two spent a long time looking for just the right space in which to open their own salon. Finally, after what seemed like forever, they found what would become their current location in Ruxton. To hear Joanne tell it, “When we found the space we knew it was meant to be…we had found our perfect match.”

Mandato and Polakoff both work as the stylists at the salon—bringing years of experience that have made them highly sought-after by clients, particularly for color treatments. The salon offers a variety of solutions and treatments that can simply give shine with a hint reflection or provide full coverage for gray. They offer a variety of color techniques such as Balayage and dimensional color.

They’ve also been in the business long enough to know which hair and beauty products are must-haves, which means the salon is well-stocked with choice favorites—perfect for your own maintenance routine, small stocking stuffers, or prepackaged as really terrific gift baskets.

When asked why they’ve chosen the particular products in their gift baskets, Polakoff Is clear that the packages represent, “What every women wants… A Perfect Blow dry. These  pre-packaged gift baskets give the woman all the products and tools they need  to recreate the perfect blow-dry at home. They even come with instructions on how to get that  perfect salon blow-dry at home.” That means that regardless of hair type, Method has a basket of goods that will not only make your hair look great, it’ll provide you with everything you need to give yourself (at home) at least some of the complete and total refreshment that you get at the salon.

Besides styling products, Method also has select hair accessories specifically chosen for the season. The Starlet Sparklers they offer are one of the season’s hottest hair accessories, and it’s easy to see why. Whether in a headband or pins, they add some fun and sparkle to any look—whether it’s a simple short cut, or a more carefully styled up-do. As Mandato puts it: “Stars are having a star moment this season.”

What else is going to be big for the holidays? “This season is all about the braids. All type of braids, and up-dos with braids. Messy bun braids, twisted mermaid braids, princess braids. Add a little glitz with gold threaded ribbon, a star bobby pin, a head band or a gilded hair barrette.”

Though hair itself never really changes, styles and ways of handling it do. Just like fashion designers and stylists, Mandato and Polakoff stay current by following trends and continually seeking education on the latest techniques and treatments. Method is a small, boutique salon, which allows its stylists to really focus on each client and their particular needs. Because its owners are also its stylists, it’s clear that the ladies at Method are doing exactly what they want to be doing. As they so simply put it: “We do what we love, and that is hair.”
