Caribbean restaurant Bahama Breeze permanently closed its Towson location on Wednesday. And it took everyone by surprise.

The restaurant’s communications manager told the Baltimore Sun that the closing was a “very carefully and thoughtfully” made decision, having to do with the Towson Circle redevelopment project. Despite the care and thought, it appears that employees found out at the very last minute.

A couple Twitter users who claim to have worked there vented their frustration and tongue-in-cheek relief:

Rip Bahama Breeze ~ I’ll miss hating to work there

No one believed me when I said Bahama breeze was a crazy place to work.. Andddd now they shut down

The communications manager promised that “everyone on the Towson team [is being offered] the opportunity to join other Darden restaurants in the area.” Intensive social media sleuthing has turned up a Tweet consistent with that scenario:

Lost my job at bahama breeze today only to be given a better opportunity at an upscale restaurant #blessings
