A portable traffic sign in West Baltimore was briefly “hacked” on Wednesday to display a profane anti-police message, before being changed.

I use scare quotes because, according to the Associated Press, all it took to make the sign read “F— THE POLICE” was to break a piece of plastic.

According to Baltimore Sun reporters Justin Fenton (who tweeted pictures of the sign) and Jessica Anderson, the sign was originally intended to advise drivers of a detour due to a closed road.

In an hour, it was “reprogrammed” with a new message: “RESPECT THE POLICE.” That’s all well and good, but when did the motorists get to learn about the detour?
