If you’ve ever wondered what types of items end up in Baltimore’s trash wheels, your chance to find out is here.

Volunteers will help sort through trash and recyclables that Professor Trash Wheel has collected during an event on May 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Baltimore Community ToolBank in Pigtown.

The group Volunteering Untapped volunteers with a different Baltimore nonprofit on the second Saturday of every month. For their 100th event on May 14, they will volunteer with the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore, which oversees the trash wheels, for the sorting event.

The sorted materials will then be logged as data, which will be used to support environmental advocacy, legislative actions, and neighborhood cleaning and beautification initiatives.

Register to volunteer here.

For folks who don’t want to sort through trash and recyclables, the Citizens of Pigtown Association is also having a Community Dumpster Day to clean up the neighborhood.

After the volunteer activities, participants can join Volunteering Untapped for an afterparty at the ToolBank. There will be free beer and wine, food trucks, a DJ, games, raffles and giveaways to celebrate Volunteering Untapped’s 100 events so far.
