I have to admit, when I heard that Governor O’Malley was promising that weekend MARC service to DC would happen “soon,” I was skeptical. You know how sometimes for politicians “soon” actually means “when it’s politically expedient” or also “never”? But I should have had more faith!
December 7 is the official start date for weekend MARC service between DC and Baltimore, one of many transportation upgrades Baltimoreans can expect to see over the coming years. In part thanks to the gas tax hike, the state is providing $1.5 billion in funding for the MARC expansion as well as the long-awaited (and long-disputed) Baltimore Red Line.
Many of those projects are a long way off, but the weekend MARC train is now just a few short months away. If you’ll bring the cupcakes, I’ll bring the balloons, streamers, and confetti. It can be a weekend MARC party train!
