Do you want maintenance-free living in a condo or townhouse, or do you want a large house with room to grow? Consider both interior and exterior spaces and the maintenance that each will entail when deciding on your perfect fit.
First, realistically consider how much space you need right now. Are you single? Do you travel a lot? Maybe a condo is a good choice so that you do not have to worry about security or maintenance when you are away. A townhome is another great option because it can be low maintenance, but have a little more privacy.
What types of activities do you commonly participate in while at home? Does your family spend a lot of time together in common areas like the family room and kitchen? Those areas might need to be large, while you can get away with smaller bedrooms.
How many bedrooms do you need? Can some of your kids share rooms? Do you need a home office? Perhaps you want a guest room because you have a lot of company. Carefully think about how much space you will actually use on a regular basis, and go from there.
